The Houston Furniture Bank’s newest effort factors original art into the things that make a house a home.Launching its Art Gallery with an Art for All event at 6 p.m. June 25, the HFB is both bringing art into its program and hosting an auction that will raise money for its No Kids on the Floor initiative. The event on Facebook live will include a virtual tour of the furniture bank.
The event has two components, one an effort that features the work of nearly two dozen Houston artists who each donated art that HFB clients can select for their homes. The second component is a live auction already under way that will raise money for the campaign to provide mattresses to children who otherwise might sleep on the floor.
The art was juried by by artist Peter Andrew, Fresh Arts programs and services director Angelica Carranza, Art League Houston director of community engagement Eepi Chaad and Laura U Design Collective founder Laura Umansky.
The furniture bank estimates that some 300,000 children sleep on the floor every night because their homes have no bed for them.
