The holiday spirit is on full display inside one particular house in Norwood.

Not only is a family that’s been dealing with a host of challenges settling into the home, they’re doing so in style – thanks to comfortable furniture that reflects Greater Cincinnati’s generous nature.

That nature prompted volunteers to furiously unload trucks and put everyday items like beds and tables together Thursday, part of New Life Furniture Bank’s latest ‘Design With A Heart’ initiative.

“It’s a program in which we team up with an organization like Furniture Fair,” said New Life Furniture’s executive director, Dana Saxton.

Saxton said the goal of the ‘Design With A Heart’ program is to create complete living spaces for families like Khayla Steagall and her kids, who’ve experienced the trauma of homelessness.

Thursday afternoon, Khayla and her family saw their fully furnished new home.

“This is beautiful,” Khayla and her loved ones said. “Oh my God.”

The volunteers who made Khayla’s life better are grateful they had the opportunity to do so.

“Furniture Fair is nothing without its community. And that’s what New Life allows us to do,” Furniture Fair’s Craig Daniels said. “They connect us with those in need.”

And the need continues to be great.

“It’s the busiest time for us as we are all working together to get families out of shelter and back into permanent, stable housing,” Saxton said. “If you have some items to donate, they’re going to go directly into the home of a family like this one today.”

Saxton said donations of dressers, sofas — even beds — are always needed.
